Ed Sheeran Skips AMAs To Make Surprise Appearance At Bluebird Cafe

Ed Sheeran was nominated for six honors on Tuesday night's (October 9) 2018 American Music Awards, but the pop singer/songwriter opted for a different kind of musical celebration when he took to Nashville's Bluebird Cafe for Devin Dawson instead of the ceremony.

During the evening, the crowd was treated to acoustic performances from Dawson, David Hodges, Jillian Jacqueline, and Amy Wadge. As per reports, the star was able to attend the musical outing without any chaos from the crowd — that is, until he stood up to perform his hit single, "Thinking Out Loud," alongside Wadge, who co-wrote the song with him. Sheeran's appearance also remained a convenient one as he brought his world tour to Nashville on Saturday. Scroll on below to see the clip!

Nashville's intimate Bluebird Cafe is a historic place for the city's musical history. Back in March, Taylor Swift also made a surprise appearance at the club, which just so happens to be the same spot where she was discovered. "I wanted to say a big thank you to the Bluebird Cafe," the 28-year-old singer said, according to the Tennessean. "I think any songwriter in town would echo my sentiments and say that this is kind of the only place where this exists -- this particular place where you get to come and hear the writer's take on the songs they've put out into the world."

Earlier this week, Sheeran made headlines for helping celebrate Bruno Mars' 33rd birthday by singing him "Happy Birthday" to the fellow chart-topper. "You know you've made it when you can hire Ed Sheeran to sing you Happy Birthday," Mars captioned the clip with the hashtags "#ExtraForever! #HappyBrunoMarsDay!"
